PRIMORDIAL

Primordial is a band that you can trust nowadays and every album is a "guarantee" for each fan around the world. We had the chance to talk with the frontman of the band, Alan, and here is what he said... We thought that it would be better to present the interview in English for many reasons...
\r\n
 \r\n

\r\n1. Hello Alan, Vassilis here from www.metalzone.gr .Its a great honour for me to talk with you... Congratulations on your last album "The Gathering Wilderness". It’s a real masterpiece without a doubt. First of all, I would like you to tell us, if you are happy with the response to it so far.
\r\n
\r\n
Yes we are, of course some people found it too raw for them but we had to change some things and challenge ourselves and alter our course a little so as not to repeat ourselves.
\r\nHowever, of course some things could be done better but nothing is ever perfect.
\r\n
\r\n 2. How would you describe your new album?
\r\n
\r\n
Epic, Dark, Tragic, Irish Metal, Rough, Raw and Uncompromising.
\r\n
\r\n 3. What do you mean with the title "The Gathering Wilderness"? Is there a message hidden behind it?
\r\n
\r\n
I guess it really means something like...the world coming down or something like that. it refers to the selling of culture in the name of progress, the re writing of history, democracies that are anything but, the growing feeling or alienation and disenchantments people have with their governments, countries. Many things...
\r\n
\r\n 4. What do you think separates "The Gathering Wilderness" from the previous albums? In my opinion every Primordial album is different but of course we can find the classic Primordial elements... Also, your vocals are different in each album and personally I like it so much. Which is the reason for that?
\r\n
\r\n
I think it’s more live sounding, rawer and more immediate. Perhaps darker then the live album as well. We will always stay true to the nucleus of the primordial sound yet we don’t want to repeat ourselves either. As for the singing ?, I get better and better at what I want to achieve and you can hear this progression on every album.
\r\n
\r\n 5. You mixed the album in Dublin with Billy Anderson. Was that the choice of the label or was it your own choice? Are you happy with the result?
\r\n
\r\n
It was our choice, we had some mutual friends and we worked it out. We wanted this live and raw sound and Billy got it for us, I am generally happy, there are things that could be done differently but you know I hate this computerised shit where all bands now sound like their albums are played by a fuckin computer. Flaws give it character.
\r\n
\r\n 6. Now, I would like you to tell us some things about the lyrics of the album. How important are the lyrics to you?
\r\n
\r\n
Of course they are important. I put a lot of work into them. For people who do scratch the surface with the band they get more and more out of it.
\r\n
\r\n 7. You are now on a new label, Metal Blade Records. For how many albums have you signed? Are you happy with the work they have done so far?
\r\n
\r\n
I think we have signed for 3. I forget!! They treat us great and we have no complaints at all actually. For once!!! They do not promise what they can not deliver.
\r\n
\r\n 8. In the message which can be found inside the booklet you said: "The world seems a darker place even then we released our last album "Storm before calm". Do you think that the world can change? You think that there is darkness nowadays?
\r\n
\r\n
I think it is fairly obvious the world is a darker more dangerous place. Can the world change for the better ?... I really don’t know if we can, if people can really learn from each other and learn from the past and move on as we seem to be accelerating towards our demise faster and faster all the time.
\r\n
\r\n 9. You have been playing for many years now. Are there any goals yet to achieve? Are there any future plans for Primordial?
\r\n
\r\n
Sure, of course, we are not complacent, we want to travel more places, meet more people, more festivals and touring. Keep making strong albums and never compromise!
\r\n
\r\n 10. As I saw, there is a tour as well as some live shows in festivals. Could you please tell us about them? Is it true that you will play in Greece again on September?
\r\n
\r\n
Yeah we will come in September I think with the Irish band Mourning Beloveth as support and maybe some surprises. It’s going to be cool for sure. I also will be in Greece in Athens and Thessaloniki on the weekends of June 3/4 together with my friend Duncan from Antimatter (ex Anathema) to do some dj slots. So come down!...
\r\n
\r\n 11. Do you enjoy most when you play live or in the studio? You prefer clubs or festivals?
\r\n
\r\n
I’m not really a big fan of the studio to be honest, many long boring days where you have to train yourself to try and be creative at any given time. I enjoy playing live no matter what, small places, 50 people, 500, 5000 whatever...
\r\n
\r\n 12. Alan thank you very much for the interview. If you would like to send a message to the Greek fans you can do it! Cheers!
\r\nHails to you all! See you in Greece very soon.
