Evergrey @ Stage Larissa

I am on the train heading to Larissa, for Evergrey’s concert. After Heraklion (Rotting Christ) and Xanthi (Scorpions), this is the third time that I will attend a rock/metal live to a regional city of a world class band. On one hand I am really pleased that regional venues take such initiatives, because that residents will not need to run to Athens or Thessaloniki in order to audience their favorite bands lives, but on the other hand I don’t know if that vanues are the proper ones to host such an event. However, Evergrey’s coming to Larissa is the second one, so they were satisfied the first time. About the show now. It started one hour late cause of soundchecks, ie around 21:30. Stage is a small venue that can host 200 and we were enough crowded.

Innosense

Innosense come from Larissa, a progressive metal band rates with major influences from Conception and Sieges Even. Here I would like to emphasize a few things: First, a band that is influenced by Conception makes me like it a lot more. Not because I ma a Roy Khan’s fan, but because Conception releases foru worderful albums worthy for listening and studying them as a musician. Secondly, the voice of Vasilis Georgiou, is a clean and loud one and I noticed that it reaches high octaves easily. Also his voice brings to mind of Khan, but this does not mean that he tries to imitate him or he is not trying to develop a distinct personal style. Finally if visit the band’s myspace profile please listen to him singing Crimson Glory’s  Masque Of The Red Death (Midnight on vocals). You will be surprised. Thirdly: The band is extremely tight, comfortable on stage, well prepared for the day’s before yesterday show. Alose be patient for their cd to be released. Sweet progressive melodies that the fans of of Conception, Sieges Even, Fates Warning will appreciate it very much.

Chaoswave

The Danish / Italian (the guitaristis is Danish, all the others are Italians) Chaoswave, is not a new band. They were founded in 2003 and already have released two albums. It is a combination of Nevermore, Meshuggah, and Lacuna Coil with two vocalists, one male and one female, but the bad thing is that their compositions give you the impression that something is always missing. They are not bad, on the contrary, they are really good. Regarding their live performance, they did their job well and managed to revolutionize the crowd with their excellent vocals, the Danish guitarist had some virtuozo solos while the bassist (6 chords please) and the drummer made the place shaking. But as I said, always something missing.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              For more information http://www.chaoswave.it/, http://www.myspace.com/chaoswave

Evergrey

Unfortunately the Swedish didn’t come on stage on time. There was a problem during the final soundcheck and the problem was that the monitor in front of the drummer refuced stubbornly to sound. Finally the show started. From the first moment they started played the whole place was turned into a little hell. People were quite thirsty, waiting long enough to listen to them, among them me, and they offered a great 90 minutes show. The heads cause the headbanging was wrenched off, particularly during Blinded, and a fine moshpit tookplace. Although their performance was a very good, they were tired and and it bacame obvious from a point and then. That is justifieds because Evergry arrived in Larissa at three o clock in the afternoon. The sound during their presence on stage was fine, while there was chatting with the crowd. I think none of the audience left unsatisfied.
