This release reached me a couple of weeks ago, although this is a last year’s release, but it would be nice to include this one in metalzone.gr review section since is a very good release.
This is the first official release from the Finnish based outfit , Wandering Midget and the “Im The Gate” Cd includes the first two demo recordings of the band (“First Encounter “ demo 2006, “I Am The Gate” demo 2007), Just for the record the first five songs is from the first demo and the last two tracks from their latest demo. The album is out from “Eyes Like Snow”. But lets find out more about Wandering Midget’s music.
The Finnish seems to follow the stream that other Finnish doom metal bands found! This is pure Doom metal in the vein of the Reverend Bizarre and Minotauri. This is all about slow tempo , pure doom metal with no any kind of “progression” in it. Their musical direction is close to the previous mentioned bands, specially Reverend Bizarre with classic track structure and a not so polished production, (it s a demo recording after all) but this fact gives a more “underground” feeling to the whole album. Not to forget to mention that the lyrical themes of wandering midget are about Occultism, death and inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft (take a look at the cover…)
