POEM @ Metropolid Stores

POEM LIVE AT METROPOLIS 11.12.2010

\r\nIt was a cold Saturday afternoon when I was heading to Metropolis store in Athens. I knew that there was a new stage running in the last floor of the Metropolis building. I visit the place some months ago, but to be honest I never saw a band live there. It was the first time for me there and also it was the first time that I was about to see this band live. The band is called -Poem- and it’s an interesting band that mixes Rock, Metal, Alternative, Stone-Rock and Grunge elements. I admit that I saw couple of  their videos in Youtube before I go the concert and I was impressed.

\r\nI arrived the place about 21.00 o clock when I realized that there are also some other bands playing support before -Poem-. First there was a guy called Spyros Pan that played the Hang-Drum and another band, named -Music Fiesta- that I unfortunately missed. I arrived at the time that -Poem- were ready to hit the stage so I grabbed a beer and got closer. The place was not full. The half floor works as a cafe where you can drink your coffee or get a drink. A big place full of sofas,  tables and chairs. And the other half is the Stage area.  About 50-60 people were in the front (stage area) and 20-30 people at the back (café area).  
\r\nSome minutes after, -Poem- hit the stage and their show started. The band started playing songs from their debut album and the fans loved it. With the pass of time, the sound was getting better and better without reaching high quality levels, as this band was so loud for this specific stage. -Poem- continued playing many songs, including new tracks and interesting song covers.
\r\nThe drummer was very good, playing perfect without mistakes and nice sound, the bass was also very nice with interesting bass lines and heavy sound that sometimes was so bad during slap bass themes. The guitars were great with nice riffs and pretty good leads and the voice of George was absolute amazing! The band also played a nice acoustic song with a special guest playing the piano.

\r\n-Poem- performed for more than one hour and a half without accidents, bad moments and mistakes. They left the stage with people cheering them and asking for more.

\r\nIt was a great time for all of us that night in the Metropolis stage floor. The highlights of this concert for me,  were  definitely the voice of George and the cover on a Defftones track.  The price was good (10euro+one free drink), the fans were nice and friendly and the whole atmosphere was for sure positive. The only bad thing that I noticed was the sound, as this stage is better for softer and lighter music and all the Rock-Metal bands that reach high volumes and hitting those distortions are going to face problems at this specific stage. I mean c’mon, how can a Metal or a Rock band can fit in a place that has carpets on the floor and smoking is not allowed? I was pretty sure that Metropolis will stop hosting this kind of bands when at the end of the night I noticed a lot of cigarettes and beers spilled on that carpet.
