Cauchemar - La vierge noire

Cauchemar - La vierge noire

Cauchemar, a female fronted heavy metal band, hailing from Canada, but keep in mind the fact that, when I state Heavy Metal is Heavy Metal, no operatic bullshit in this one.
\r\n“La vierge noire” is the title of this, debut release, on vinyl only via Nuclear War Now records, and their music can be described as Heavy / Doom Metal with strong influences from the Italian Occult Doom scene and bands like Paul Chain Violet Theatre, Black Hole and more classic doom metal acts like Witchfinder General, Black Sabbath and for those that dig the obscure sound, by the first listening these guys reminded me of the French Doom metal act Shelder.
\r\nOn this 5 track E.P. I can easily recognize some very good galloping riffing like those that mercufyl fate used to have, unique atmosphere and very distinctive vocals by Annick Giroux, sung in French. (For those that the name rings a bell, yes Annick is responsible for the cooking book “Hellbent for Cooking”)
\r\nIn general I really enjoyed this E.P. that features a strong essence of “cult” and “obscure” sounds that is not too easy to be listened these days. So my recommendation is get this vinyl and keep on spinning the wax on this old turn table, the great violet cover of the LP is another strong “selling point” for me…
