Cherry Lips - Cherry Lips

Cherry Lips - Cherry Lips

\r\nAnother rock n’ roll band hailing from Italy, a girl band indeed (except their drummer Michael Reale), tries to impress hard rock audiences. Listening to their debut album a thing that has been mentioned before in Metalzone came up to my mind. Italian bands, although talented and full of attitude, face serious inspiration and creativity problems. This rule is, unfortunately, confirmed in the case of Cherry Lips. Although their music is good, if I wanted to listen to a band of their sound I’d choose No Doubt.\r\n

\r\nC.L. concentrate on making a typical rock n’ roll album with AC-DC, 70’s rock and punk (The Stooges) as their main influences. In “girl band” talk, imagine a combination of Girlschool, No Doubt and Le Tigre. Nice tunes, happy mood but I don’t think this is the best they can do. With the exception of a couple of pretty good songs like “Dead Or Alive? (Are You)” and “Back For More” the rest of the album can be characterized as mediocre. Riffs that are played on and on, uninspired solos and lyrics that are going to be easily passed by and a band that almost sounds like Blondie playing heavy metal...it’s a pitty, Cherry Lips sure have talent but they are not taking themselves serious at all.\r\n

\r\nGood effort but this is not going to touch someone who has a deep knowledge of what hard rock and rock n’ roll mean. I definitely think they can do better but I they’ll have to prove us they want it.  \r\n
