CONCEPT OF TIME - A New State of Thought

CONCEPT OF TIME - A New State of Thought

It is historically proven (and history never lies) that excessive\r\nprogress destroys any former state of being. From a point on we’re not\r\ntalking about evolution but mutation. Unfortunately this is a universal\r\ntruth and affects music as well. I usually am very cautious when it\r\ncomes to bands that characterize their music “progressive”. I listened\r\nto “A new state of thought” with some prejudice I must say but after a\r\ncouple of times these Scottish lads managed to grab my attention.\r\nBasically it’s the band’s first effort that comes to life through this\r\n5-track amazingly interesting  EP. Their music steps on the tracks of\r\nEvergrey (mostly) and Epica but in no case should they be considered as\r\n“Copiers” since they enrich their own compositions with many symphonic\r\nparts with the keyboards playing a vital role on the songs something\r\nthat brought Therion to my mind. Something that I consider very\r\nimportant and I should mention it, is the fact that the compositions\r\nare very well arranged and orchestrated without being “stuffed”\r\n(something that happens to most of the bands serving this particular\r\ngenre since they thing that showing off is more important than\r\nperforming) having as a result to be not only interesting but also very\r\npleasant to the ear. Something that I also found surprisingly pleasant\r\nare Tom Perret’s vocals which simply break out of the ordinary\r\nover-melodic vocal lines that the genre needs since his voice often\r\nreminded me that of Ηansi Kursch something that gives what we would\r\ncall character to the songs.
\r\nIn addition there is a very decent guitar work here and if a little\r\nmore attention was paid to the production (the drums and the bass are\r\nsounding a bit lower than normal) now we would talk about an impressive\r\ndebut.
\r\nConcluding I should admit that “Concept of Time” are sounding very\r\npromising and if they are given the chance not only from the fans of\r\nthe genre but also from a decent record company someday they would\r\nevolve in a great band.
