Defiled - In Crisis

Defiled - In Crisis

\r\nDeath metal as a genre has gained a great deal of popularity and quality in the last few years. You see bands poping out out of every corner and behind every stone playing music that has something to say in the midst of chaotic releases in today’s music business. The truth is, this sound gives a lot of room for experimentation since there are no taboos or "musts" in its nature. Examples of well executed death metal can be found everywhere wether it is classic(90’s stuff) or more technical material. So, logically, you’d expect a band with some years on its back would have the knowledge and the experience to deliver the goods in its new album. It’s 2011 afterall! But the japanese fail to do so.

\r\n After a short intro, the noise starts. Undefined sound hits the ears and chaos begins its reign. A swirling mass of sounds defines the bad production and just before you can a clear idea of what is going on in here you’re already bummed by the sound. I cannot understand if Defiles plays with a soul but their composing skills seem to have drained. Or is it just the sound that is holding my senses back? My ears are trained to the extreme(even the disgusting) sound though and me nose can easily pick the sent of the meaningless efforts. There is nothing coherent or actuall songs in "In Crisis". The songs sound all alike, relentless blasting and fuzzy guitars. After only the second time around there is nothing left to remember. I think there is no reason to describe wether this is old school or guttural or whatever death metal because it’s bad, really bad.

\r\n Despite the band’s experience(haven’t listened to their previous works yet I have to admit) you would expect at least something worth the time. But in vein. What is left to my memory is a good looking cover artwork and nothing more. Season of Mist’s move to release such a difficult album in these hard times is a risky act. I hope they’ll get rewarded for this because my ears have already rejected Defiled’s new creation.\r\n
