Genna Apo Kolo - Anti-Trendy Attack

\r\n The greek brutal death metal scene just gained a new beast. I’m so glad the local brutal fuckers don’t stop to amaze me. Genna Apo Kolo hail from Salonica, I’ve been following them since their first steps back in the "glorious" myspace days. I particularly liked their fun, gory lyrics and their black humour aesthetics in general. So, finally after all this time their album fell into my hands. I, myself, am to blame so a review is obligatory.

\r\n The band provides brutal death metal. Without flowers, without bullshit. Catchy, brutal as hell, no extra decoration, no exaggerations. Genna Apo Kolo take all the best ingridients from the genre’s beasts and filter them til they become their own children. Suffocation, Severe Torture, for some reason they even brought Pyaemia to my mind. The vocals lean towards Malta(Beheaded, Abysmal Torment) and the package comes full circle with the awesome production. As dirty as it should be, as clean as it should be. Nothing more, nore less. Genna Apo Kolo have managed to create some real music within the 28 minutes of the album. Though brutality is the key word here, the track haves solid structures and riffs and are catchy to the core. It’s not like you only get impressed by the beastly manners of the tunes, you’re left with something after it’s done. This is some effective songwriting.

\r\n Their tech abilities are at high levels, the guys are good players and after having seen them perform live I can guarantee they’re into their stuff 110%. And hell yeah, I dig their themes! Human Kebab and all about dimishing the human flesh and its nature(triple homicide huh?). Huge songs like the self titled(it actually is a mixture of Impaled Nazarene with BDM!), Kinder Furnace, and Slaughtering and Slaughtering are not written every day. I strongly suggest this piece of grewsome work to any extreme music lover. It’s one of the best release I lay my ears on lately..\r\n
