George Cain - Prepare For War

George Cain - Prepare For War

George Cain’s "Prepare For War" is an one man Ep including 5 compositions mixing elements and styles, such as Thrash (ala Slayer), Hardcore (ala Pantera), Progressive metal (ala Queensryche, especially when it comes to guitar riffing) and even alternative (ala Soundgarden), among others. Well somebody could ask, how can all of these things be combined and he would have a strong point, but this guy here proves that everything can be done. Well arranged and performed compositions, with some interesting changes and catchy choruses are the advantages of "Prepare For War". On the other hand this whole effort isn’t enough inspired to gain your attention, for more than 3 or 4 spins and I personally dislike his voice. Even not annoying, he tends to be colourless and flat, singing pretty much the same way at every song and struggling when he tries to sing at higher pitches(especially in "Retaliate"). Another disadvantage is definitely the sound which isn’t the best possible. If we would be talking about a demo ok, but this guy has already an official release and the production is a little bit amateur to my ears. Highlights in my opinion are "Face Your Sins" with its galloping chorus and by any means the first song, "War", with its great melodies and the aggressive, yet catchy chorus! A great song indeed! To sum things up, I would say that we are talking about a rather interesting effort by a talented and clever composer. In my opinion it would have been better if he had worked with a full band and share his opinions with the other members, because even if the songs are more than mediocre, they seem to lack of something, that it would get them to a higher level...Is it passion?? Is it team work?? I am not sure, but I think that as soon as he finds out, the future will be more auspicious for him.
