L' Impero Delle Ombre - I Compagni di Baal

Well, I Have to admit that L Impero Delle Ombre is one of the few bands of today that really have left me speechless with their releases , “L Impero Delle Ombre” (LP 2004) as well as with their second release the split 7” with Bud Tribe. I ve been looking forward to their new album “I Compagni Di Baal” since the release has been estimated to take place sometime ago, but there was some delay and the album finally came out in February.
\r\nL Impero Delle Ombre themselves consider their music as “Cemetery Rock”, a label that fit perfectly to their music, since they play a great mix of obscure Italian Progressive Rock and Italian Doom Metal. Their sound can de described somehow close to Paul Chain , Death SS , Le Orme, Goblin, but they own their unique distinctive sound for sure! On this LP apart from the Cardellino Brothers the basic members of L Impero Delle ombre we meet also Oleg Smirnoff, (ex – Death SS) on Keyboards. Lyricwise the album is a concept album that has to do with the late 60’s mini series on French TV “Les Compagnons De Baal” while their music is in the classic vein of their first LP.
\r\nMany 70’s sounding keybords that blend suberd with the unique voice of Giovanni and the great melodies produced by Andrea’s guitar. The Doom Riffing is always present and in large amounts as for the atmosphere of the album, is eerie as possible, right from a 60’s Italian Bava film. The “I Compagni Di Baal” is one of the few albums that the listener will love from the Artwork , lay out , until the last note , or this is the way that it worked for me! Legendary Black Widow has already released the album on vinyl and cd, with the cd featuring a bonus cover to Black Sabbath’s “Snowblind” a cover that will make Iommi’s moustache smile full of satisfaction…
