LACUNA COIL - Shallow Life

Lacuna Coil - Shallow Life

\r\nThere are some bands out there who have put new elements to their music in order to attract a bigger audience, there are also bands that completely changed their music style appealing to a brand new audience.
\r\nLacuna Coil belong to the second category. Forget everything about the band you used to know in the first 2 albums. The only thing in common is Christina Scabbia’s voice. Apart from that, shallow life takes the “modern” sound of “karmacode” even further to a more Pop direction making their style even more “commercial”
\r\nFor the production of this one the band replaced their old producer Waldymar Sorychta (known from producing for bands like Tiamat, Samael and Moonspell among others) for the more “Trendy” Don Gilmore who has worked with Avril Lavigne and Linkin Park.
\r\nThis choice has as a result for the songs to sound extremely “modern” appealing mainly to the American audience. Perhaps they are following the path of Evanescence who reached the peak of their career by writing easy listening songs, having tremendous airplay and therefore success.
\r\nThe compositions are the definition of “radio-friendly” songs with catchy melodies and choruses that would stuck in your mind from the very first listening, something that is obviously the band’s purpose. This of course doesn’t lower the quality of the songs and surely doesn’t make “Shallow Life” an average album, it’s just miles away from the sound of their first releases.\r\n
