Of Legends - Stranded

\r\nThis type of bands always gave me a hard time understanding them. "Core" is the basic ingridient and from there on we have lots of experimenting to the point you get burnt braincells in the effort to make sense! Of Legends deliver their debut full length and manage to mash my brain with their math/experimental tunes. Hell, was that only 25 minutes?

\r\n So, ten songs spread in less than half an hour but giving the impression there was a lot more into it. They make you move at first but leave you questioning the undefined shape of what you just heard. The structures are so "broken" and amorphous, their mood so experimental that you get lost in endless swirls of notes and rhythms. The vocalist is quite monotonous, that doesn’t help at all. His screaming is relentless and lacking colour and texture. Bright exceptions are the repeated phrase "I’m so siiiiick" (from "Death Eyes") and the kick ass vocal intro of "Off Guard"("What the fuuuck?"). Musically, there’s still some biased side of things. The drumming keeps changing pace more often thah often, though it’s generally on up-tempo mode, and that get’s tiring after a while. This is exactly the point: you get so lost in this tech thing, it becomes frustrating. The riffs on the other hand sound alike, the only difference being some details noticable only by metronome freaks. Bummer!

\r\n If this scene is familiar to you(War From a Harlots Mouth and the likes) you know where you’re walking but still I think you have to be a "gotta have it all" kind of guy to indulge in "Stranded". These lads have the skills, the productions is super, even the cover art is amazing but I wasn’t convinced like Ben Weinman from The Dillinger Escape Plan was. He even decided to be their manager! So, it all comes down to taste..\r\n
