MONSTERWORKS - Singularity

MONSTERWORKS - Singularity

Excessive progress destroys music and ..our ears. No matter how hard I tried I failed to understand what Monsterworks are actually trying to play on this one. Casket Music labels them as Extreme Metal (as if metal is not extreme music already..) while introducing them as the most diverse band ever. Well this at least is true. Monsterworks are on the scene (I don’t know which one actually..) for 14 years now and they are playing…everything! “Singularity” is an amalgam of compositions filled with Death metal elements with some power metal parts, along with black metal blastbeats and outbreaks under Nu metal grooves with an extra pinch of classic Metal.
\r\nAll these given through atmospheric keys. As for the vocals, there is extreme variety as well. A wide range from Death growls to High pitched King Diamond shrieks.
\r\nConfused already? Just wait until you listen to it.
\r\nIn my opinion there are 2 main reasons leading to this confusing result. Either while trying to sound “groundbreaking” and “progressive” they put so many elements to their music and they lost their way or they haven’t decided yet what they really want to play (something at least outrageous for a band that is around for 14 years).
\r\nOf course in all this mess there are some interesting parts but the mediocrity ruling the whole album and the average production aren’t leaving any choices of “repeating”.
\r\nConcluding I’d like to say that Monsterworks’ music might be Schizophrenic or paranoid but surely not progressive.
