Slough Feg - The Animal Spirits

\r\nTwo years after the great “Ape Uprising”, Mike Scalzi and his crazy company remain on the animal side of life, since their latest offering “The Animal Spirits” leaves no room for misunderstandings. Through 11 tracks Slough Feg give away once again their pure, primal heavy metal, harmonically blending their 70’s and NWOBHM influences with celtic/folk melodies, managing to sound themselves neither old nor new, like only they can do.
\r\n“The Animal Spirits” does not actually move much away from its predecessor, “Ape Uprising” that would be, since what we have here is also mainly short and fast songs, thanks to Slough Feg’s ability to grow their ideas within less than 4 minutes, something that surely captures the listener’s interest and although the album has almost the same duration with “Ape Uprising”, we can find here 3 tracks more (11 for 8).
\r\nSo is “The Animal Spirits” an “Ape Uprising” copy/paste? The answer is no, because you cannot talk of copies since Slough Feg have created their own personal sound that is present in all of their releases and makes them distinctive among them only by some little details. One such detail is the fact that I wasn’t able to find in “Animal Spirits” not a single song to be described as indifferent, even though some of them stand out for me, like the thrashing opener Trick the Vicar, the concise Free Market Barbarian, the almost bluesy Ask The Casket, the epic Second Coming and the closing 2 minute dynamite called Tactical Air War, in which lends his voice no other than Bob Wright from legendary Brocas Helm.
\r\nEnough said, all we have to say is that “The Animal Spirits” is a great heavy metal album from a band that has remained loyal to its sound and its fans and always gives their best to deliver something at least good, so if you consider yourself a heavy metal fan then become a Free Market Barbarian and obtain this album!
