Slough Feg - Ape Uprising

Slough Feg - Ape Uprising

\r\nMike Scalzi and his company are back! Almost 2 years after “Hardworlder”, Slough Feg (as they are now called) release another album which seems to be a loyal follower to their trademark sound. Besides, one of Slough Feg’s biggest achievements is the fact that they have managed to create a very distinct sound and their very own identity which comprises of  lots of  NWOBHM elements and influences from many late’70s bands, while at the same time a folk element can be heard crawling here and there in their songs.\r\n

\r\nThis is exactly the name of the game for “Ape Uprising”, their seventh offering, in which they let aside for a while the celtic lyrics and imagery to turn to their other favorite subject, which is science fiction. Now, concerning the music itself, the album is surely way above the average and can be listened from beginning to end without any boring or average moments. Tracks like the opener “The Hunchback Of Notre Doom” which follows an almost doom sound, the sweeping “Shakedown At The Six” or “White Cousin” with its melody and the acoustic parts give testament of the album’s quality. As for the vocals….ok, Mike Scalzi is not an “air raid siren” but his performance is full of passion and nonetheless convincing.\r\n

\r\nOne thing that could be however  better is the album’s length. I am not saying that 37 minutes and 8 songs is exactly not enough but the album is so good that leaves you with a sense that you would like to help yourself with a little more of it, maybe 1 or 2 songs more. Even like this however, “Ape Uprising” is a very good heavy metal album that will keep the Slough Feg fans satisfied while at the same time is a perfect chance for people who haven’t heard their stuff to get to know them.
