Sorrowful Angels - SHIP IN YOUR TRIP

SORROWFUL ANGELS - SHIP IN YOUR TRIP

Originally formed in 1999, ten years later, the Greek-Polish band, Sorrowful Angels release their debut album “Ship In Your Trip” rooted in the glooming territories of human expression as they like to say. After a very long period of up’s and down’s, Sorrowful Angels crack their way into our world with an album melancholic in mood which, strangely how, can bring enthusiasm to the followers of this specific heavy metal genre.
\r\nThe first thing that someone can easily notice is the very good production and artwork which give the impression that a very professional work has been done on this album. Noticeable is the fact that the terrific artwork has been made by the famous known for her former works with Lacuna Coil, Poisonblack and W.E.B., ms Natalie Shau.

\r\nSorrowful Angels follow the tracks of Sisters Of Mercy and Paradise Lost (especially Konstantinos Katikos on vocals) but not with the aim of making an exact copy of those legendary bands. However, they take it to the next level by putting on heavier sound on atmospheric material which makes the band more open to heavy and not only gothic audiences. All of their songs hold on to the same atmosphere without being boring or repeated. One of them, the song “Denial”, follows at times the prog paths of Firewind and maybe it now seems obvious why this song was picked for being the first video of the album directed by Firewind’s and Outloud’s Bob Katsionis. Notable, also, is the featuring of Mike Galiatsos (Snowblind, Nightfall) in “How To Lose A Star”.
\r\nAll of the album songs can make an impact on someone’ s mood and personally I believe that Sorrowful Angels have fulfilled their purpose (although Red Sunrise does remind me a lot of Paradise Lost song “Erased”, especially the intro). The guitar work on all of the songs is very professional and I have to give two thumbs up on the keyboard intros of  Dion and Dariusz Sipiora especially on the song Laws Of Deceit.

\r\nMaybe this album is not able to take this music genre one step further yet but both the simplicity and melancholic mood of SA’s music can make someone believe that there’s talent in this band and all that someone can say to this band is “keep up the good work!”. Finally, I am very happy to find out that in the land of quick fame and easy written music, there are some artists who work hard to make their music heard and all I can say is that there have to be more people who appreciate such works.
