Suidakra - Book of Dowth

Suidakra - Book of Dowth

\r\nGerman melodic deathsters Suidakra return after a very successfull album(Crσgacht, 2009) and with this being their tenth official release in 14 years they prove to be a rather active band. For those of you who are not acquainted with the talented act I’ll just mention they’re devoted lovers of the folk/melodic death metal genre like no other. The rest is up to you to discover through their discography.

\r\n This time Suidakra take their celtic dance to a lever further away by adding even more folk elements. Their songs continue to boost this "ride the sunset" feeling, the melancholic/epic mist is still present. Guitar leads escalate to form the right mood, something that has been missing from the vast majority of modern bands. And it is true that I enjoyed every minute of the album though something was still missing in the end. I think the balance between the metal and the folk parts has leaned a bit towards the second. There are many acoustic passages and female vocals decorating the canvas but they enhance the melodic face of Suidakra too much. That is not necesery bad, it’s just that I’d like the heavier side of things to be at the front. It’s a bit uneven to my mind.

\r\n Their fans will not be disappointed though. "Book of Dowth" is a complete work with an excellent production and orchestration. The variety of sounds helps for an easy listening, there is no repeat here, nore unnecessary crap just to fill in space the way so many do to lengthen their empty tunes. Suidakra’s new work is well structured, with the right perfume and a strong dosage of epicness that will satisfy the fan and become a solid brick in the foundation of their discography. Be sure to lay your ear over this if you dig battles via the six string goddess.\r\n
