Svartahrid - Ex Inferi

Svartahrid - Ex Inferi

\r\nNorway and black metal. Two words attached for life, even in the minds of the norwegians themselves. The most known exportable "product", has travelled back and forth changing faces and smells, yet there are some old disciples that insist on the...traditional way. On their fourth opus, Svartahrid offer oldschool ravaging black metal in quantities, picking up where others stopped or failed to proceed.

\r\n I try hard to think what is there to write or say about this album that hasn’t been written before for similar releases. It’s all there, the coldness, the monolithic riffs, the soulfucked vocals. Just like we know them, whether we love them or not. The band doesn’t seem to be trying hard, meaning they seem to possess what it takes to dwell in these dark waters. They feel it, and beat on the listener with no remorse but I’m given the impression that whoever digs this deep is gonna be someone with a very specific taste, one in the "gotta have it all" mood. Another case of "good but heard a million times before" that drives you to either put it on the shelf or hardly give it another try.

\r\n I have nothing to blame Svartahrid for, other than that they haven’t given me a good reason to press the play button again. And just when the selftitled track(quite good one!) is about to bring shivers, the long durations and the deja vu feeling hold you back and never let go. I’m sure the corpsepainted freaks of the genre will love this one but, damn it, when you have albums like Funeral Mist’s Maranatha lurking around the corner you will surely turn away. I only suggest a listening to those lusting for anything Norwegian..\r\n
