SVIERG - MMIX

\r\n     As\r\nit has relevantly been argued:  “The project started during the\r\nsummer months of 2009, in reaction to the lack of black metal support in the\r\nNorthern Virginia area” –taken from the myspace page). MMIX (a one – man act) is\r\nde facto peculiar, because of this huge “sub-culture” gap it is summoned to fill.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n     MMIX, only featuring 4 compositions, is Svierg ’s first demo.  MMIX is\r\npure USBM (= United\r\nStates Black Metal). It is a release both traditional and modern. The\r\nideas  developed are rather fresher than\r\nSvierg ’s influences’. Despite those, the approach and structuring of ideas,  their transmutation into complete songs, it ‘s\r\ntraditional black metal approach. This album is raw, chaotic, and seemingly\r\ndisordered. Things are not outworn with these though; additionally,\r\nthe riffing is melodic, in its own\r\nway. Essentially, melodic black metal seeds constantly nip throughout all\r\ncompositions (e.g. Earth Lacerated by\r\nSaturn’s Rings especially at 4:00 approximately, Into the Astral Abyss).\r\n

\r\n    \r\nThe atmosphere that one draws from this release is mainly due to the following\r\nfactors: a. the (volitionally) bad production. The rotting sound configures the\r\nframe in which Svierg develops his musical persona. b. the vocal lines are\r\ndistant and otherworldly; the  screaming is insistently reminiscent of the nascent\r\n black metal era. c. Finally the crawling\r\nmelody that renders the compositions quite catchy (e.g. the grand epilogue of Into the Astral\r\nAbyss). Generally, Svierg ’s\r\nriffing is intelligent (he structures the significant Swallowed by Celestial Darkness with barely 3\r\nriffs).\r\n

\r\n     The album’s theme is a cosmic one. It\r\ncould be fairly summarized as follows: Earth’s devastation is causality ’s breed,\r\nand as such, all existence/ hope etc. is futile. The lyrics, although simplistic\r\nthey may be (both technically and on content), are in agreement with the album’s\r\naesthetics. The lyrics’ astral origin is harmonized to what Svierg seeks.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n     MMIX is a demo – omen. Inspiration\r\nis more than efficient, thus, it rather reaches the once Svierg ’s  goal, the establishment of an absent musical\r\napproach in the area. Indeed, an intelligent release, a solid endeavor. \r\n
