SYBREED - The Pulse of Awakening

SYBREED - The Pulse of Awakening

\r\nThere are times that all of a sudden you come across a band and you\r\nget stuck on them, just like that. This happens naturally, is like love\r\nat first sight or whatever, you just can’t control the urge. The\r\nstrangest part is when this particular band doesn’t belong to the kind\r\nof Metal I am into, like Thrash or classic heavy metal, so I am\r\nbeginning to worry whether I am going through some personal crisis\r\ngiving in to all that Nu-metal crap, or worse I am searching for new\r\nmusic expressions getting tired of the same old stuff, mutating to\r\n…”open minde(a)d”. Both scenarios are at least terrifying anyway.
\r\nThat’s more or less how it all began 2 years ago when I first listened\r\nto Sybreed’s second album “Antares” in 2007. Anyway I am concluding\r\nthat it’s all about music and the various genres are simply there to\r\nhelp us communicate. We’re listening to what makes us feel better and\r\nthat’s all.
\r\nSo “The Pulse of Awakening’’ is the third release of the Swiss\r\nindustrial-prog-metallers created with the same old recipe that was\r\nused on “Antares”, though a bit more brutal and with a more black metal\r\napproach I must say. Especially in songs like “I Am Ultraviolence” and\r\n“Lucifer Effect” is like listening to Dark Funeral and Emperor (R.I.P.)\r\nplaying industrial though with a more electro/dark touch bringing to my\r\nmind bands like Wumpscut and Front Line Assembly. Ben’s performance is\r\neasily the best so far since he seems to know very well how to use his\r\nvoice correctly singing either melodic or brutal when necessary, while\r\nThomas (aka Drop) is delivering the most impressive riffing so far. The\r\nman behind the awesome production is Front Line Assembly’s Rhys Fulber,\r\nsomething that is pretty obvious when you listen to their sound, while\r\nthe cover art although simple is a work of Spiros “Seth” Antoniou. The\r\ntracks that really blew my mind were “Doomsday Party” and the awesome\r\n“Love Like Blood” cover of Killing Joke. It’s not that the other\r\ncompositions are less interesting, every song seem to have its unique\r\ncharacter and that’s not an easy goal to achieve.
\r\nSo, those interested in something “groundbreaking” and inspired at the\r\nsame time should give Sybreed a chance. You won’t regret it, believe me.\r\n
