Within The Ruins - Invade

Within The Ruins - Invade

\r\nThe american scene of our time is divided into two categories in my opinion. There are those that grew up with the more "classic" stuff(no need to mention any examples, right?) and there are the younger ones that grew up with whatever had the "core" labeling attached to its end. And I’m not saying this is bad thing or something necessarily negative. But the thing with Within The Ruins is somewhat strange.
\r\n
\r\n I don’t wanna start this with any kind of (hi)story telling so I’ll go straight to the core: the guitars are balancing on a thin line between crazy lead parts and breakdowns quite often. Perhaps a bit too often. Technical and holding no taboos they give a strange flow that does not let you decide what it is you are listening to. Now, is this good? Is it bad? I guess it depends on the listener’s mood at the time. I loved the whole tech thingy, I enjoyed many of their ideas but it all seems like a big puzzle in the end. It’s as if they wrote melodies, riffs and all sorts of guitar stuff and then put them together with glue not caring if the result actually is a song or not. Surely, the album will keep you surprised, you can never know what follows and that’s a bonus. "Invade" is powerful, with the typical plastic sound, fit for trendy ears, and vocals the way you’d expect them from a modern american band.

\r\n I’m not sure myself if I’m hating it or loving it right now, after so many listening sessions. The lads play extreme metal and that surely cannot make me feel bad, but they do need to pay more attention to the composing part cuz yeah, Cephalic Carnage are high tech too but what they come up with is coherent, strange as it may sound. It’s the magic that’s called "song". I can’t call myself extatic nore was I disgusted, perhaps the guys are just having an idenity crisis..

\r\n Those of you that are familiar with Victory’s roster know what to expect from this. And if you enjoy this mixture of August Burns Red(soundwize) with pretty technical music you’ll love it too. I’ll keep my ears open for their next step allthesame.\r\n
