Within Temptation - The Unforgiving

\r\nI really don’t know if Within Temptation are considered a “heavy metal” band or not and to be honest, I don’t really care. What I know is that with their latest release they are proving why they are considered a leading force when it comes to Female fronted symphonic metal!
\r\nTheir new album called “The Unforgiving” is a masterpiece! In my personal opinion this is the best Within Temptation album so far. The most powerful and at the same time most melodic release from a band that knows how to handle these two core elements. Based on a concept from a comic book Within Temptation are composing a series of mind blowing songs each of which tells a tale of the book’s main characters. The band’s performance is stunning while Sharon den Adel’s more “pop” and less operatic singing is absolutely AMAZING!
\r\nI won’t bother commenting on the compositions, if I do it this won’t be an album review, it would look more like a novel. To give you a taste of how the album sounds I’ll tell you this: Just take 50 female fronted symphonic metal bands (there’s a lot of them out there) look for the best parts of their songs and then put these parts together. I doubt if you manage to create one or two songs that can beat those from “The Unforgiving”. Some albums are really hard to be described in simple words, you have to listen to them in order to understand what it’s all about. “The Unforgiving” is such an album, if you give it a chance either you’ll love it or hate it because it’s too un-metal for your taste.
\r\nHowever, friends of the symphonic metal sound are already familiar with Within Temptation and they know what to expect from them (though they’ll be surprised as well!!) the rest of you “Defenders Of True Metal” light up the torches and cast them out!
