Zandelle - Flames Of Rage

\r\nLife as well as music works in its own mysterious ways. Just when you find yourself sick of all these “Copiers” and uninspired bands releasing one mediocre album after another , the very moment that you feel fed up with all the crap around you and you start believing the rumors that Heavy Metal came to an end cause there are no more albums that will make you bang your head as it was back in the day. I am talking about 10 (not to say 20) years ago…There comes the GOD of Heavy Metal appears in the form of a band (that’s the form He usually takes) and kicks your ass so bad that your head starts spinning and your brain starts working again!
\r\nZandelle are of these bands that live by the Heavy Metal code of honor trying not only to praise its values but also to fight for all that it stands for. They are around since 1996 as the personal bet of our Countryman and frontman George Tsalikis to bring Heavy Metal back to its rightful place of glory in a time where alternative and grunge seemed to rule. Through endless trials and tribulation (constant line-up and record company changes) Zandelle managed to release 4 full length albums of exceptional Heavy/power metal with “Flames of Rage” being their latest masterpiece. The bet that George put 13 years ago is finally won! You see, this guy managed to escape the Greek way of thinking, that of “nevermind..” and “I play the guitar to get the chicks” and with his persistence and love for this music he made his personal dream come true! I won’t bother writing about the compositions and the production, what we’ve got here is Pure HEAVY METAL in all its glory! Just like that. No electronic crap, no “bleeping”, no mathematic rhythm changes in order to impress the listener. When you have Inspiration and guts, a pair of guitars, a bass and a drum kit will do the trick and believe me, they are more than enough and Zandelle are the living proof to the above statement! Where all “posers” and shallow musicians hide their lack of inspiration behind labels like “Progressive” or “experimental” Zandelle stand tall! They take Manowar’s pride, Hammerfall’s power, Primal Fear’s strength and Gamma Ray’s melodies and inject them to their music offering us an amazing album! The lyrics are praises to the Greek Mythology/History as well as  to some lost values like the untamed human spirit, the “Inner Strength”, “Defiance”, “Broken Trust”, betrayal and its aftermath…revenge. All these glorious tales are sung through George’s powerful and passionate voice which sometimes, when it reaches higher notes reminds me that of Kai Hansen’s (and that’s great!!). Heavy Metal just needs bands like Zandelle to stay alive.
\r\nSo those of you who are into true Heavy Metal, just move your asses and grab this one! As for those of you thinking that all these are “retro-metal” and “remnants of a time long gone” well, I am sorry but I thing you are reading the wrong webzine!
