FAR BEYOND - Songs Of Hope And Sorrow

Far Beyond, as the info suggests began their music career as a Black Metal band, or more correctly as a solo project of the German composer Eugen Dodenhöft. What I am listening to here is anything but Black Metal on the contrary I could describe it more like a mixture of Opeth and Tiamat along with some HIM influences here and there! How does this sound? Well it sounds pretty nice to me! “Songs Of Hope And Sorrow” is basically a 4 track EP of well composed Gothic metal while the only elements that may remind you of Black Metal are the harsh vocals in some parts and some black infested riffing. The compositions have mostly that dark metal sound with the catchy melodies and the clean melodic vocal lines fitting just fine to each song, more than any black metal growl.
\r\nThe production is very powerful and gives the songs a solid feel. I’ll comment no more on that EP besides the fact that is categorized to the wrong music genre. This is definitely NOT a Black Metal release!
\r\nSeems that Eugen has a real talent in composing dark/Gothic metal songs, so we’re expecting from him to use it wisely!
