MYLAND - Light Of A New Day

MYLAND - Light Of A New Day

\r\nMyland started as a project of drummer Paolo Morbini, after his decision to gather some of his influences and record them. Their debut cd under the name "THE TIME IS OVER" was self published in 2004. Even though this was a project idea and all the members have been busy with other bands, Paolo was already working on some new original material for a second MyLand album which was out in 2008 and was called "NO MAN’S LAND". "LIGHT OF A NEW DAY”, which is introduced here, is their third attempt released from Point Music in 2011.
\r\nThe band’s sound is a mixture of Hard Rock and AOR, with the melodies divided in equal parts for both guitars and keyboard, with (mostly) up-tempo, easy-listening tracks, but with nothing new to introduce. This cd consists of very melodic songs with beautiful "sing-along" choruses, while their music reminds me of Journey, Talisman (or generally J.S.S., in matters of voice) and even Praying Mantis (especially "Cry For The New World" era). When you deal with this particular genre, taking a closer look to the vocal arrangements is inevitable. Generally the singer’s style reminds of Jeff Scott Soto, at the point of such a comparison can be made without getting insulting to the legacy of J.S.S. Moreover, "LIGHT OF A NEW DAY” is full of backing vocals and harmonies which accompany the main voice, but I think that some of them should be arranged in a different way, because some high pitched ones get a little bit "annoying" at times.
\r\nTo sum things up, MYLAND have succeeded in composing a melodic and easy-to-digest album, which will gain the interest of Hard rock fans, but without managing to make something that will amaze them, at any point\r\n
