ARSIS - James Malone

\r\nMetalzone.gr: In 2010 you are celebrating your 10th birthday. How does it feel?
\r\nJames:
Well, Arsis didn’t really become active until 2003.  Sure, Mike and I recorded a demo in 2001 and we later used the material for Arsis, but Arsis did not actually become a reality until much later.  When 2013 comes around, then I can celebrate.

\r\nMetalzone.gr: How has the course so far been? Regrets? Hopes? Unfulfilled dreams?
\r\nJames:
It has been a long road to say the least. Like with most things in life, there are things that I wish I had done differently, but overall I am proud.  I have accomplished more with Arsis than I ever thought possible and things only seem to be getting better.  I am very hopeful at the moment.\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: Are you planning anything special for the occasion?
\r\nJames:
We shall see once the date arrives.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: How does the current line up feel? Has it shifted your sound?
\r\nJames:
The current line up feels amazing.  I find working with Nick, Nat and Mike very inspiring.  If the influence of the new members has changed the sound at all, I would have to say it is more energetic now.  I am just so inspired and I feel that the rest of the band is as well.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Starve For The Devil is going to be out on February 5th. Can you tell us what we will listen to in this release?
\r\nJames:
I guess “Starve for the Devil” is a metal album.  I feel that our love for traditional heavy metal really shines through on this release.  It is so much more than a technical death metal release; there are hooks in every song.  I feel that it is very memorable.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: What do you feel is the key feature that makes ARSIS stand out in their genre and how would you characterize your sound?
\r\nJames:
I feel that we try our best write memorable songs.  We stress composition instead of trying to see how many notes we can play and how fast we can play them.  I feel that this is what sets Arsis apart from the rest of the metal bands that are currently coming out of America.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Are you going to tour in support of the album?
\r\nJames:
Yes indeed.  We just finished a European tour about a week ago and it was very successful in my opinion.  In January we will touring North America with Arch Enemy and more tours should follow.  We would love to play Greece at some point; hopefully sooner than later.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: What influences have you had into creating your music? What bands do you listen to?
\r\nJames:
As I mentioned earlier we all love traditional metal.  Bands like King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, and Queensryche are a huge influence on Arsis.  Aside form these bands, we also were influenced by a fair amount of more extreme bands such as Dissection and Morbid Angel.  Nick and I also listen to a lot music outside the metal genre like Depeche Mode and The Birthday Massacre.\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: Is there a collaboration you would like to have in the future that would be like a dream come true?
\r\nJames:
I would love to write music with either Robert Smith of The Cure or Wayne Hussey from the Mission.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Thank you very much for the interview and I wish you all the best in you upcoming plans.
\r\nJames:
Thank so much for  the support and the opportunity to do this interview.\r\n
