THE WANDERING MIDGET - Samuel Wormius

Metalzone: Guys, Welcome to The Metalzone.gr web pages.
\r\nFirst of all, introduce your selves to our readers, that may not be familiar to Wandering Midget

\r\n
\r\nSamuel:The Wandering Midget is a doom metal band with hints of vintage prog rock, psychedelia and NWOBHM. We’ve been around since 2005, there’s three of us and our names and duties are:
\r\n
\r\nSamuel Wormius - Vocals & guitar
\r\nThomas Grenier - Bass & backing vocals
\r\nJonathan Sprenger - Drums
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: “Serpent Coven” Is your latest release so far, what feedback have you got till now?

\r\n
\r\nSamuel: Some say it’s a masterpiece, others curse it to deepest hell. Naturally there are as many opinions as there are speculators.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Is it easy to be a doom metal band these days? Are there any die - hard doom metal fans out there?

\r\n
\r\nSamuel: I guess it’s pretty easy, all metal is becoming more and more popular at least in Finland. But it also has a negative side of course. The elements of danger and frustration that gave life to the genre are almost gone from modern metal. We aim to keep those things present by doing what we feel like regardless to our audience and critics. For us The Wandering Midget is not a social phenomenom. We cherish our privacy in order to reflect our true emotions instead of mirroring those of the surrounding world. There are fans, I don’t know about die hard and doom. We are not puritans so we don’t care.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Well, Finland gave birth to some of the most significant doom metal bands of the late 90’s and 00’s. Bands like Spiritus Mortis, Monotauri and Reverend Bizarre. What about Doom metal in Finland? Is it supported by media, clubs or audience?

\r\n
\r\nSamuel: It has become more popular recently, and I think music industry is trying to make easy money with some kind of a "doom boom" going on. Like I said earlier, the success of doom metal is a double-edged sword. But I’m not the right guy to talk about media, clubs or audience. I mostly live inside my own head and I’m almost dead to the world.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: And now a tricky Question, As we all know Reverend Bizarre is no more, (Albert is the new singer of Spiritus Mortis and Peter Vicar is now with Lord Vicar) Do you consider Wandering Midget as the “Followers” of R.B.? The question pops in my mind due too the “similarity” I noticed on your releases with RB’s sound and aesthetics.
\r\n
\r\nSamuel: Not really. Altough we are influenced by their older stuff, doom metal’s sound and aesthetics were invented long before RB. We are feeding our own lust of creation with methods we find most suitable.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone :Despite H.P. Lovecraft what are your main Influences as a band? On lyrics and music.
\r\n
\r\nSamuel: Lyrically we’ve been dealing with the Mythos, armageddon, sword & sorcery stuff, devil worship and doomsday cults. Nowadays the lyrics tend to get more and more poetic and hazy though. Musically we’ve been influenced by traditional doom metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Cathedral, Witchfinder General, Pentagram, Candlemass, Electric Wizard and the forementioned RB. Some other influential bands are Pink Floyd, The Doors, Manowar, Judas Priest, Black Widow, Camel, Hawkwind, Coven, Uriah Heep, Comus and Goblin.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Any confirmed shows for this year? Any festival appearances?
\r\n
\r\nSamuel: Nope, not yet. But we’re working on it.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Although “The Serpent Coven” is still a “fresh” album, are you working on a new album?

\r\n
\r\nSamuel: We’ve composed a couple of new songs and recorded many jams and riffs since the release of "The Serpent Coven", and at the moment we are wondering how to use them. The completed songs are pretty straightforward doom stuff, and they may be released as an EP. The next full length album will probably be much more hazy and experimental than our previous works. We’ve been thinking about making it a concept album.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Thank you for your time, Hope to catch you on stage sometime in Greece. As an Epilogue I d suggest to give a message to all of your loyal fans around the World.

\r\n
\r\nSamuel: Stay tuned. Strange things are about to happen
