DARK TRANQUILITY @ Gagarin 205
\r\nAbout 4 years since their last appearance in Greece, "Dark Tranquillity" returned ready to rock us once more! I arrived at the venue where they were performing (Gagarin), the doors opened around 7:30 and the space started filling up with fans. The night though was not uneventful... a bit after 9 o’ clock as the crowd was waiting patiently for "Samael" (co-headliners) to open the show saw instead Dark Tranquillity entering the stage. Apparently, Samael were held up in Thessaloniki, where both bands performed the previous night, and the order they were to perform was switched. Thankfully, no changes were made to the setlist and everything continued smoothly. So now it’s show time...
\r\nThe band entered with none other than "Terminus" from their new album named "Fiction"! The crowd’s enthusiasm was clear from the very beginning and with just a glimpse you could see everyone’s hand in the air! They continued with another track from "Fiction" ("The Lesser Faith"), then went on with other songs from previous albums. A touching moment was when they performed "Lethe", an all-time classic the band loves to play live. The setlist was satisfying (17 tracks all in all) , particularly for those who prefer the latest albums (from "Damage Done" and on), and also contained many picks from "Fiction", which was not unexpected due to the fact that the band is currently on a tour for it’s promotion. Unfortunately, the fans of the early years in Dark Tranquillity’s discography didn’t share the same satisfaction as few older songs were performed. Nevertheless, the show was overall spectacular, with a very pleasing sound, the voice of Mikael Stanne standing on very high levels and himself capturing the show with his general performance. The highlight of the night was the encore when the band returned dynamically with "Punish My Heaven" and set the stage and crowd on fire! They then closed the set with 2 more tracks from "Character". Dark Tranquillity proved to us once more how amazing they are in their live performances and how they remain stainless in the Swedish Death Metal scene...
