GOLDEN R FESTIVAL @ Methexis Club

\r\nFriday morning we’re already at Volos ready and willing for a full metal day.. Slither, Stormbringer, Against The Society, Die Without, Descending, Inactive Messiah, Innerwish and Septic Flesh are ready to make greek metal scene proud. So...
\r\n
\r\nIt’s about 5 in the afternoon, we’re all in Methexis club and Slither jump on the stage. We are talking about 16 year old children and they were about to share the same stage with one of the best greek bands, Septic Flesh. They mixed Guns n’Roses, Iron Maiden and a bit of punk and they gave a respectfull show, even though they were supposed to play for 15 minutes. The club was still half-empty and the sound problems were quite enough but there was also the time pressure, so the stage now belongs to the epic power-metallers Stormbringer. Their style (clean vocals, nice melodies) didn’t sound as it should since,by the end of every song they always had to make corrections again again.. On the other hand, that didn’t become an obstacle for the guys to lose their strength. They actually achieved to warm up the audience up to a point.
\r\n
\r\nIt’s almost 6 o clock and we’re getting into hardcore.. Even though they don’t have much time to show us what they’re worth, Against The Society succeed to wake up the half asleep audience and get the mosh-pits started.. If the whole band had the style of their singer they would have turned the whole club upside-down. It felt like the whole place was a big companion, since in Volos the bands know how to support one another.. 15 minutes later Die Without get on the stage and we’re still in the hardcore scenery. The club is almost full and hardcore dancing gets into the picture. Very good style on stage,well-bonded band with great feeling and ready for show. Their singer had the greatest communication with his audience while his energy was filling the place. Anyway, the stage didn’t seem to be enough for him.. You could see him running up and down, and landing on the people’s arms after several stage-divings... So everything seemed to be getting in a raw except the sound problems.
\r\n
\r\nAfter a small soundcheck the stage belongs to Descending an we leave hardcore dancing for headbanging.. I believe that this was their best live show up to now, since the band was in a great mood. From the first riffs of Enter Annihilation the headbanging started and lasted up to to the final song, while the band members were running all over the stage. Tracks like Horror Show, Unblind, The Trust, The Creation Remains, Descending and Killer Instict have already become well-known as the audience was singing along. Their best moment though, was on their new song, Your Valentine, where the singer Jon Simvonis invited the people to jump on the stage and live their moment. The invitation was for good as the guys started a big party. A lot of people said that the band was the highlight of the evening..
\r\n
\r\nIt’s already started to getting dark and Inactive Messiah lead us to melodic death sounds.. By starting with Solless the band stuggles to fix its sound problems,as every other band has done up to that moment. In the first tracks we didn’t manage to listen to the orchestral parts but the band didn’t disappoint its crowd. Even under those circumstances they were in a good mood and they were able to transfer it to the people. For the luck of all of us, in the middle of their setlist, before we hear the first tunes of Be my drug the sound is getting better and the audience is able at last able to enjoy other songs such as Theatrical world and Lament. Well-bonded band, full of energy they had one of the greatest shows of the festival.
\r\n
\r\nInnerwish are ready to follow, and the heavymetallers move to the front lines. They had the best sound of all the bands that had played up to that moment(although it shouldn’t surprise us,since their style is clearer than hardcore and death..). Nice style on stage, they succeded to make the people ’’feel’’ their every tune. Nice musicians who gave us another metal style from the ones we’ve heard up to that point.Without meaning they lucked anything from the other bands.. Their tracks Have you ever,Lonely lady, Bleeding soul and Ready for attack were the best parts of their presence.\r\n

\r\nIt’s been already 12 o’ clock and everyone is waiting for the headliners of the festival, Septic Flesh. Who unfortunately were invited to wake up the tired audience at that time of the day. It’s not that good watching 8 bands in an afternoon one after the other.. They were not an exception as far as it concerns the sound since they also had problem to find the great balance as any other band. On the other hand, as we saw for once more they haven’t worked for nothing all these years. Their fans remain true to them and willing to answer to every word that comes out of Seth’s mouth. They had a powerful setlist, by starting with Unbeliever followed by Chaostar, Faust, Virtues of the Beast, We the Gods,Sumerian Daemons and more... Of course they didn’t miss to travel us back in time with songs such as Dna and Science. Their latest album ’’Communion’’ achieved to wake up all those who were tired with songs such as Lovecraft’s Death an the beloved Anubis. Of course the headbanging and the mosh-pits didn’t miss since the band was giving us all the energy we lacked.. For those who were there, they won’t forget for sure the last track of the show( Persepolis) where Seth was responsible for the best wall of death of the evening by getting off the stage and becoming one with the crowd. Septic Flesh reminded us for one more time, not only that they are professionals but how good they know to support greek metal scene. I’m reffering to the part where they talked and ’’congratulated’’ other greek metal bands such as Firewind, Rotting Christ, Inactive Messiah and Descending.I don’t think we see that often nowadays...\r\n
