Inactive Messiah @ Texas Necropolis

\r\nIt is Friday and the center of Athens is shut down due to a protest, so after walking for about 20 minutes, I manage to get to Texas Necropolis Club at about 20:30. The doors open a few minutes later and at around 9, the first band of the night is on the stage. Sorrowful Angels, are a promising band that sounds a lot like Paradise Lost. If I  am not mistaken, they have been around since 1999, but this is one of their first performances with their new line up. They performed pretty good on stage and with their songs, they warmed up the crowd for the next band, Saddolls. Saddolls are a band whose music is highly influenced from the band HIM, and although they played ok, it is my opinion that they can do much better in the future.\r\n

\r\nAfter them, came W.E.B. with songs from their last album “Jesus Heist” and older ones, playing in classic black metal rhythms but also having a unique sound of their own. In fact, during their song “Enthorned”, the two girls that appear on their video came on stage and gave a unique fetish show whipping Sakis and playing with each other – keep in mind that they came on stage exactly as they appear in the video, which is almost nude, wearing only the absolutely necessary items (and the crowd – both boys and girls – went wild, cheering for them). The band had a pretty good performance in general, and the fans probably liked them judging from the crowd’s reactions. After about an hour of headbanging they gave the stage to Inactive Messiah.\r\n

\r\n Inactive Messiah, are a band that has existed in the Greek black metal scene for about 8 years, since their first album came out in 2001 – but they were playing under a different name back then, they were called Womb Of Maggots. They opened with their intro and continued with songs from their two latest albums, like “Sing”, “Hear Me Tonight” and “Be My Drug” from their first album “Be My Drug” that came out in 2006, and also “Soulless” and “Sinful Nation” from their latest album “Sinful Nation” that came out in 2008. At some point they thanked the crowd for coming to see them perform, as well as people that helped them out like Chris Antoniou of Septic Flesh that helped them with their last two albums, Ioanna that was handling their merch and Polymnia for promoting the show – and to thank her they asked her to come on stage, and she played bass for one song instead of Lefteris. They ended the show with the melodic song “Like an Endless Lament” who’s melody stayed in our minds as we left the Club.\r\n

\r\n This was the first stop in their Sinful Jesus tour alongside W.E.B. (the tour title comes from the two bands’ latest albums, Sinful Nation and Jesus Heist) and straight after the show they were on the road to Kavala. Good Luck with the rest of the tour, guys!\r\n
