MEGADETH SCORES US TOP 10 HIT WITH “I DON’T CARE”

Forbes is reporting that Megadeth collects a new hit in the United States this week. “I Don’t Care”, which serves as the second single from the forthcoming Megadeth album, debuts on multiple Billboard charts and even manages to become a Top 10 bestseller, which is not a given when it comes to new material from a group that has been releasing music for more than four decades.

I Don’t Care” starts its time on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart at #5. Megadeth has now scored five hits on Billboard’s ranking of the bestselling hard rock tunes across the nation on platforms like iTunes, four of which have cracked the Top 10.

Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine says about the anthemic “I Don’t Care”: “How many times have you wanted to say this to someone? I know you want to! Deep down inside, if we had the balls, we would tell more people, ‘I don’t care’ more often.”

Musically, Mustaine explains, “Part of the main riff in this track had been floating around in my head since we did TSTD&TD, so I was pumped to start recording ‘I Don’t Care’ for this LP. I really love the guitar nuances in the track. There is the main rhythm riff, next, a very deliberate down-picking part, next, the octave chords with jump picking on octave notes (while still down-picking!). And the soloing and back and forth between me and Teemu [Mäntysaari] is magnificent!!”

The new single follows “Tipping Point,” the album’s first single, and news of a very special bonus track: a reimagined version of “Ride The Lightning,” which Mustaine co-wrote with Metallica’s James Hetfield, Cliff Burton, and Lars Ulrich and was the title track from the group’s 1984 album. Megadeth Mustaine, Teemu Mäntysaari (Lead, Rhythm, and Acoustic Guitars), James LoMenzo (Bass Guitar) and Dirk Verbeuren (Drums) – released the album’s first single and video for “Tipping Point” in early October. The sonically explosive and lyrically unflinching song launches with a thunderous guitar solo before Dave’s iconic voice hauntingly kicks in. In the desolate but hopeful accompanying video, directed by Leonardo Liberti, Dave is locked up in a prison being tortured in extreme fashion, while the band performs in the same lock-up. In the end Dave perseveres evil and walks away into a new day.
