JADED STAR - Memories From The Future
I rarely have great expectations when listening to a debut album because I always try to keep a clear head. However when it comes to Maxi Nil who I consider to be one of the greatest female vocalists in the rock/metal scene I had the bar raised quite high. Maybe partly because she came from a band such as Visions Of Atlantis but mainly because with great talent comes great responsibility. She had to create a good album if not a great one, in my own personal opinion, so when I pressed play in my car (which I consider to be the ultimate test for music) I was a demanding bitch with her claws drown out waiting to listen to the fresh Jaded Star album, Memories From The Future.

When The Mask kicks in I was intrigued but not amazed. When Wake Up started to play I was sure I was listening to a catchy hit which I enjoyed more than I should – if I wanted drive safely . As Keep On Fighting and Stars (which is the first lyric video of the band) flowed in the air I was totally drawn in Jaded Star’s world. Their music is like a trip in a kaleidoscope which offers you diverse options of your reality and your emotions and the way Maxi sings leads you through paths which are at times rough and scratch your skin and let a few drops of blood fall to the floor, or comforting like the embrace of the wings of an angel who carries you through a rough time and helps you find yourself and rise above.

Kostas Vretos (Wardrum) who is an exceptional guitarist has given the album an amazing riffy edge which will satisfy the more heavy metallic fans. The staggering drumming by Raphael Saini (Iced Earth) underlines the fact that even though Maxi’s voice is dreamy, the songs have some serious “balls”.

However there is a downside to this release ….It simply cannot be listened to at a low volume…but then again if it ain’t loud it ain’t worth listening.

Stars is the most optimistic and empowering song I’ve heard lately. You’ll See dives into my darkest thoughts, stirs all the pain I’ve felt in the past and the coldness you feel after you overcome the sadness…it’s melody is lingering in my mind ever since I heard it. However I am not going to say anything else other than …. Since the band is confident enough to have the whole album available for listening, listen to it and if you like it buy it!
