KARMA VIOLENS - Dormancy

KARMA VIOLENS - Dormancy

\r\n I will write this review in a severe manner because I’ve been reading a lot about KV these days and I want to be open, without caressing anybody’s ears. I will not start writing about the band’s bio nore do I have to mention the shinny names that are responsible for the-awesome indeed-sound of this release. What I really want to put out is a solid opinion about the music itself. What Dormancy has to offer to the listener.

\r\n And it’s exactly the music that makes me happy when I listen to the band’s debut album. The guys deliver modern extreme metal, their songs are not afraid to spread their hands over various brunches of the genre(death, thrash, a bit of black metal, etc) and present their own view of music perception.  Karma are melodic where they have to be, groovy wherever they want to be, blasting whenever they want to be(though I’d speed things up a bit). You could call them the bastard child of Lamb of God, Neaera, a touch of Heaven Shall Burn with lots personal sound in the whole thing, resulting in an album that is way up there among the best releases in the genre for 2011. One of the things I’d change is the "speed limit". I could use some more blasting or at least a raise on the bpm bar. I’m not talking about relentless blastin a la Hate Eternal of course, it’s just that a "Black Dahlia" breeze would be more than welcome to my ears. Nikk’s drumming is creative and imaginative all the way, don’t get me wrong!

\r\n Mario’s work on the vocal part is truly remarkable. Moving all around the extreme spectrum(no melo choruses here for you girls) but also covering a large part of it, his voice stands tall and varied. There is no way you’ll get tired of listening to Dormancy, the songs are of various moods and tempos thus giving a beautiful flow throughout the duration. A hard thing to find these days.

\r\n Those of you who have seen the band on stage(quite a lot actually!) have come to know that KV knows how to play the game. "Tribute" parts can also be found in the album, references to the mighty Death, some black metal guitars here and there indicate the band’s open mind. And this is where you realize that Dormancy’s essence lies within its riffology. It’s the guitar work that makes all the difference. This is a guitar driven creation by all means. Inspired, high octaine fueled and ready to ignite the pit. I don’t need to say more. A few hearings are enough to prove me right. Just make sure you get to see them on stage. \r\n
