Alestorm - Bavk Through Time

\r\nWeigh anchor, hoist the sails!! The Scottish pirates have returned once more to take us on another journey to far away seas and distant shores. Alestorm finally released their third album called “Back Through Time” and they are about to kick your ass! The Jolly Roger is raised on the main mast, cannons are ready to fire and the crew on the upper deck looks thirsty for blood. They will take no prisoners, not this time. Davy Jones will have company this day!
\r\nA familiar, deafening cannon fire sounds the charge and the slaughter begins! “Back Through Time” opens the album in an aggressive way and the trip begins. Tales of unfortunate sailors “shipwrecked” on deserted islands, infamous taverns and epic battles with ferocious sea beasts blend with music and carry us away in the times of old, where the sense of freedom could only be experienced in the open sea.
\r\nAbout the music, “Back Through Time” doesn’t sound any different from its predecessor except for the fact that the songs themselves sound a bit more “Tavern oriented”. By that term (that I just made up) I want to say that songs like “The Sunk’n Norwegian”, “Rum”, and “Scrapping The Barrel” could be sung by a bunch of cutthroats and lowlifes and every filthy bastard hanging some nasty tavern near the port or even upon the deck of the ship after the loot is shared and the voices of the drunken pirates are breaking the still of the night.
\r\nOf course there are some more epic songs praising a pirates life like “Swashbuckled” , “Barret’s Privateers” as well as “Death Throes of the Terrorsquid” that reminded me of their previous tales. So what if Running Wild begun this pirate oriented metal 25 years ago? Alestorm are taking over doing what they know best. They play pirate metal continuing the legacy of their German mates. The fast guitars, the melodic keys and the powerful drumming are all mixed in a dreadful yet overwhelming crescendo and above all that noise you can hear Captain Bowes’s hoarse voice screaming “Get theeeeeeem!”
\r\nSo if there’s any filthy scoundrel that haven’t heard of Alestorm, better do it now or ye’ll be walking the plank. Sharks are looking hungry, it’s not proper to keep’em waiting!
