Poisonblack - Drive

\r\nThe fifth Poisonblack album entitled “Drive” is finally out. There might be eight years since their first release but the band seems to stay put to that dark mellow sound they had from the start. With their new release they continue that dark legacy leaving no place for experimentation or risking with a new music approach. Some may say that they are stuck or that they just repeat themselves over and over again but that’s not entirely true, well even if it is, there’s a large group of fans that would love this album. Ville Laihialla might be absent from the recently departed SENTENCED but their ghost seems to haunt his music.
\r\n“Drive” consists of simple compositions with a few doses of pure Rock ‘n’ Roll. Heavy songs drenched in pain and melancholy having that thick gothic essence while in contrast the fast paced songs are having a more “optimistic” feeling (if I could say so).
\r\nLaihiala’s distinctive voice itself has that mournful sound by nature while his performing and composing abilities are obvious on “Drive” once again. The bass escorts this funeral march following the hollow yet powerful drumbeat composing an unsettling image.
\r\nWith that in-your-face attitude in their compositions Poisonblack manages to intrigue the listener into a dark and obscene album, composing songs like the creepy “From Now – Here to Nowhere” that plunges you into a world of pain and despair or like the adrenaline filled “Piston Head” that’s leading you to a frenzied headbanging. After all the choice is yours.
