Antimatter - Alternative Matter
If you hadn’t had the chance to check them out so far, it’s never too late, provided you like this kind of music. Antimatter were formed back on 1997 by Duncan Patterson (former bassist/songwriter of Anathema) and Moss. They released three albums, “Saviour”, “Lights Out” and “Planetary Confinement”, after which Patterson leaves in order to form the band Ion. Danny Cavanagh of Anathema joins Antimatter on their fourth studio album, “Leaving Eden”.
\r\nSo, after all these years they decided to release a compilation of songs, covering all the periods of their work up to date. “Alternative matter” lasts over 100 minutes during which you can discover many sides of Antimatter through various remixes, live performances and acoustic versions. The second edition contains also an extended booklet with info and personal notes by Moss as well as rare photos and a 30 minutes long DVD.
\r\nWell, considering Antimatter things are very clear and specific. Their music is dark and heavy, moving in atmospheric dark/electro/ambient music fields. If the names of the musicians who participate in this “project” are not enough as a motive, or if you are not familiar with Antimatter, just listen to “Black Sun” (Dead Can Dance), which is the first song of the album. It’s an exceptional choice, which will travel you elsewhere and get you in the mood of the album, provided you are aware of what you are about to listen in the next 100+ minutes and, also, you “approve” the terms above.
\r\nAntimatter won’t promise you any “rose gardens” via their music. They belong to a world full of shadows, yet, once you enter, it will captivate you for good.
