Wishdoom - Up The Hammers
Well it is a fact that all of those bands that have in their names the word “doom” are making me a good first impression, thankfully these guys from Thessalonica despite their cleverly picked name Wishdoom (Wish – Doom) they also praise the whole epic doom metal movement with their music. Being well prepared they offered us their first demo entitled “Up The Hammers”.
\r\nIn this particular demo we can find six tracks, five of which are Wishdoom’s original compositions. First of all I need to praise and Hail their decision to use as an intro the ultimate epic hymn “Makedonia, Land Of Alexander”, Moving on we find the same titled as the demo, “Up The Hammers”. Even from the first notes we can recognize the Epic mid tempo sound of Manilla Road and due to the production, closer to Doomsword. Next track is the more up tempo (in comparison with the rest of the demo) “Vamryre’s Night”, in this occasion we deal with stainless steel, and to be honest sharp steel (Beware it cuts). The only negative element I believe that are vocals during the more speed – up segment of the song, that need some improvement, as for the rest of the song and the demo in general , the vocals are very descent with a great epic essence. Next track we meet is “Zeus The Thunderer”, with a very pompous intro and very good melodic lines from the vocalist. Moving on there is the (almost) instrumental “Wishdoom”, very well composed with manty melodies that take you away with them. The last track is a medley cover to the Lord Quorthon’s Bathory, risky, I admit but very good.
\r\nIn conclusion I d like to say that the demo is in very good standards, the basic element of the band the epic feeling is present and in large amounts. From the point of the playing habits, the band sound nice to my ears, the production is very good for a demo release, a little bit of rough but the guys play epic metal… no polished production needed. Now anyone of you that you are a fan of epic metal just visit the band’s my space page, listen to the tunes and judge your own.
