It’s been fourteen (14) years since the release of the one of the most important (In my humble opinion) black metal albums ever. (Frost) The creators of which, have returned with more progressive music direction as ever. While I ve been listening to “Vertebrae” I realized once again the change of the musical direction that Enslaved did some years ago, a turn into more “complex” sounds with many “clean” vocals and many melodic lines.
\r\nWell, is this change a something good? According to my humble opinion, there is no use of characterize this change as good or bad, we just talk about a different band, that I consider to change their name to something else, so there will be no limitations from the fans about the way the band will sound.
\r\nThe mixing process of the album, has been made by Mr. Joe Barresi, that in the past has been worked with bands like Tool and Queens Of The Stone Age, the mixing and production is great, and participated a lot to the way that the new album sounds for sure.
\r\nThankfully, in many parts the classic “Enslaved” way of playing reminds the older days, but due too the production the old feeling is long lost.
\r\nBut to be fair enough, in the music style that Enslaved decided to follow the band performing great. Many fresh and wise ideas in that one, very interesting track structure and many, good melodies.
\r\nWell it’s up to you and your music tastes, which era of the band will follow, the first, the second? Well I ll vote for both.
