METSATOLL - Terast Mis Hangund Me Hinge 10218
\r\n Another old release from Nailboard Records and another one from the Estonians Metsatoll. This album was the band’s first demo, self-released in 1999 and re-released later on in 2005 by Nailboard Records with the title "Terast Mis Hangund Me Hinge 10218 " ("Steel frozen in our souls"), a different cover and 1 bonustrack. Metsatoll connects traditional Eastern European Folk with hard guitars, driving basslines, playful percussion and an eastern atmosphere. The base is a sort of an epic Heavy Metal, fairly straightforward and powerful with folk melodies and traditional singing and incorporated bag pipes and flute and other traditional instruments. Altogether the songs are very hymnical held and moved rarely from the mid speed range remaining too homogeneous, and vary neither in the speed nor in the tendency in a way. However the compositions are interesting and don’t luck the harshness or the metallic layer to harden their shape and essence, there are even some thrash metal moments (see the video below even though it is not totally representative of the album), but they are a little bit repetitive and if you are not a die-hard fan of this style you will probably be easily tired. From the other hand if you are into pagan/folk metal don’t miss to listen to this band. \r\n
