Honeymoon Suite - Clifton Hill
Honeymoon Suite is a band not so well known, but with many years of experience, since it was founded back in 1982!!! Highlights of their carrier, could be considered, their supporting acts for Billy Idol, Jethro Tull and Bryan Adams, among others, during 1984, and for Heart, ZZ Top, Journey and Starship during 1986. Other achievements would be, their music’s appearance in some soundtracks and famous tv series, such as Miami Vice and Lethal Weapon. In 2007 founding members Johnnie Dee and Derry Grehan, reformed the band, with the original line up. The fruit of the reunion is “Clifton Hill”, produced by Tom Treumuth (who produced the debut self-titled Honeymoon Suite album in 1984) and named after the famous landmark, in the centre of the tourist activity in Niagara Falls, where the band was formed 25 years ago. Even if the band is too old to talk about influences, I would just mention that the first thing that crossed my mind is (late) Bon Jovi, in order to describe their music. This album is consisted of, (mostly) up-tempo songs with catchy choruses, groovy rythm section and rockin’ riffing. Not modern but,yet not old fashioned, balancing between poser and hard rock, the compositions are full of passion, sentimentalism and good music performance. The production and the sound, also help the band to sound more fresh and up to date. The entire album’s songs are above average, but some would easily become hits. Tracks like "Tired o’waiting" with its rockin’ melodies and the tempo changes, "Riffola" with its great guitar riffin’, "Down to business" introducing some sleasy stuff, "That’s all I got" with a chorus that you will be singing along by the time first you listen to it and "Separate lives" which closes this release with a very "cool" performance by Johnnie Dee and a very catchy bidge, are great examples to prove my saying. To sum things up, here we deal with a very nice piece of melodic hard rock, with attitude, melodic songs and nice production, which makes "Clifton Hill" a very easy to listen cd.
