Brocken Moon - Das Marchen Vom Schnee

Brocken Moon - Das Marchen Vom Schnee

\r\n   Brocken Moon comes from Germany and this album "Das Mδrchen Vom Schnee" was initially self-released by their own label Black Metal Mafia Records in 2008 and after it sold out immediately, is being re-released on CD and Vinyl by Northern Silence.
\r\n   As you can see there are no titles in the songs basically because "Das Mδrchen Vom Schnee" consists of a single 50-minute song divided into six different parts. Some words that could define their music are isolation, depression and hatred. Using simple old-school Black Metal riffs and simple but beautiful melodies, enhancing them with keyboards in the background to create a very intensive atmosphere, ambient interludes and some random acoustic guitars, they create a well-worked balance between the harsh, aggressive and cold atmosphere and the melancholic folk music, all under a raw sound. The guitars are very interesting, either keeping a hypnotic, monotonous Burzum-esque tempo or leading to a more chaotic black metal assault. Except of course their last track which lasts about 20 minutes with a continuous acoustic guitar that seems to go forever and gives you the impression that your cd got stuck in your cd player somehow. Although it possesses a beautiful melody after the fifth minute that you managed to strongly consolidate it you are beginning to wonder if there is truly a problem with your machine! Well, no! This song is really about that long and you can hear only but one chord playing!!
\r\n   Another thing questionable here are Grim’s vocals. Between low and high-pitched screams, he does fine when his voice maintains into a low, ghostly level but when he tries to scream, well the output gets really annoying and ridiculous.
\r\n   Production wise don’t expect anything polished or shiny in this effort and that’s a good thing and it fits the music very well cause otherwise anything else it would have spoiled the foundation and the ‘aesthetics’ of such a release.
\r\n   Personally I think this is a rather dispensable album. Of course all fans of depressive, ambient black metal will enjoy it, except maybe that last song that probably it gonna make you wanna bang your head against the nearest wall, but other that that there is nothing really astonishing here. Maybe listen to it first before you make any decision about buying it.\r\n
