Devil's Gift - Devil's Gift
\r\nI have received such stuff from Tiefdruck lately that I really appreciate the work that guys at this label do. Seeing that this CD was from this German sub-label of Universal, I was prepared to find out something worth-listening.. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn that way. Even if in its production this work reaches a high enough level, Devils Gift seem that they still haven’t found the way of combining their different influences so that they can bring a fine result. Typical modern atmospheric nu-metal forms, pop melodies covered under metal arrangements, hardcore parts with drums and guitars reminding of Slipknot’s not so good times, guitar solos coming out from nowhere, approached in a power metal way, everything mixed up, without giving a pleasant result. It’s like they haven’t decided who they really want to be, how they want their sound, sometimes extreme, others quite easy-listening, changing from song to song, even changing in the same song.. It’s where you think you have found something that works well for you, it’s there where it’s like someone changes the CD, bringing you in a totally different mood without asking for that change.\r\n

\r\nIt’s a little bit awkward, but I can imagine their music in a rock club or something, but not because their songs have earned their place in the setlist, it’s just that most clubs often play unknown songs to fill the program, songs that you just listen to while drinking your beer.. So it goes this time, just for one night listening to selections of others, no-one would complain for Devils Gift. I think though there would be no-one asking the DJ what was that that he just played! A hardcore fan wouldn’t have them play in his house, an atmospheric one would think they are too true metal for him, a heavy-power guy would kept saying they are not for him because of their sophisticated modern sound, in general I don’t think that this release will make Devils Gift find their way and stand out in the scene.. Sad to see the name behind Devil’s Gift while searching for a bio, I expected more of her.. Maybe next time! \r\n
