Machinery - The Passing
\r\nMachinery is a Swedish band that blends death metal, power metal and progressive elements and "The Passing" is their second release. To give you some first hints they tend at times to the new death metal in Arch Enemy style ("Reason Is The Rush", "Delirium In Vengeance") with a Nevermore flair at others (in the opener "Cold" for example or "I Divine"), or with the dark vision of Evergrey ("Dead Man"). The rhythm is never too fast although it doesn’t lack its moments of forcefull viciousness and generally this album is quite diverse, blending heavier sections and death metal exaggerations with more melodic patterns and with slower moments building a dark atmosphere and even a more progressive attitude. The use of keyboards in the songs just grant to the diversion of the songs and to a more spicy output. The guitars are solid and well worked and often very technical while the vocals are powerful, varied between death growls and clean ones either with a harsher, heavier side or with a more melodic approach.\r\n

\r\nThis specific mixture of styles I can’t say that fits that well with my personal taste, as if they put too many ingredients into a salad and something doesn’t quite match with the final recipy. Although as a general opinion the overall performances are very good and the different arrangements quite well structured, so I leave it up to you to decide whether you will buy this album or not since there are already two tracks from the new album in their Myspace Page and you can have a small taste there. The sure thing is that they are not bad at all therefore check them out.\r\n
