WYRD - HAIVE - KEHRA (Split CD) -
\r\nΑnother release from Northern Silence Productions, this time a three-way split cd featuring three Finnish bands Wyrd, Haive and Kehrae. The album begins with the melancholic black metallers Wyrd who present here two new, exclusive tracks "Vieraalla Maala" and "Uupunut". Stylistically as far as possible from each other the first song is a sluggish, monotonous composition of full isolation, which creates sophisticated melancholic melodies and a hymnical depressive feeling with a dark riffage, a doomish tempo and vocals that change from sorrowful clean parts (that however sound totally weak and bad) to some random black metal shrieking . The second song from the other hand begins boastfully, with hoarse vocals and uptempo speed although there are also here the slow and acoustic passages as well as a choir. This is not a bad group but nothing to be drooling over with excitement.
\r\nNext is Haive with three tracks from their third demo "Epaetoivon Vuoksi", two metallic folkish tracks and the purely acoustic song "Raina". The atmosphere is once again quite doomish with slow guitars, restrained drumming and black metal shrieking but with a larger folkish flair especially with the use of kantele, a Finnish traditional plucked string instrument with a distinctive bell-like sound. The third one from the songs I must say that made the best impression on me from all three with its great guitar melody and its really engaging rhythm.
\r\nThe last band of the split Kehrae participates with two songs of primitive heathenish sounds in a Burzum-like manner. Much rawer and sharper than their predecessors but in the same downtuned, depressive atmosphere with monotonous riffage and simple arrangements and without ignoring their naturalistic tendencies with acoustic passages and nature samples of sea waves and rain. Really beautiful songs and a Burzum-esque atmosphere that gained my preference and my vote against the other two Finnish bands that preceeded.
\r\nTo the conclusion of it, if you are into folk/pagan/black metal or further more if you are hugely devoted to the Finnish metal scene this split cd will partly satisfy your musical tastes but don’t expect anything extraordinary here.\r\n
