WINTERDOME - Weltendammerung

\r\nWinterdome is a band for which we don’t know much. What we know, however, is that the album "Weltendammerung" is its debute album and the music they play is a mix of Atmospheric / Gothic and Folk Metal. To begin with, I couldn;t mention the artwork. It’s anbout an excellent job and the cover of the album arraigns into war situations and personally, if I hadn’t read the cv which accompanies the promo, I would believe that it’s about a band which plays Viking / Black Metal. Rerrering to the music, what the germans have done is very original, though not so impressive in order to stuck with it. We shall tell tha the album is a concept album and it looks like a fairytale, as between the songs there are some recitations and my german knowledge don;t allow me to make them clear. For this reason is impossible to describe what’s going on with the concept. To be honest, these recitations tired me and I would prefer not to be at all in the album. Apart from this, the music is atmospheric, with many folk and gothic elements. It is obvious that the basic inlfuence of the band are Haggard, Skyclad, Cruachan, My Dying Bride. The songs consists of rythm guitars, which remind the last work of Haggard and the same guilts for the brutal vocals. What is come up to be boring, and unfortunately is pervasive in Winterdome, is the operatic vocals, as well the female vocals. The combination of brutal vocals with operatic and female is something more than usual and thus boring and tiring. What I liked most in the album is the keyboards and the violins, which have been combined pretty and they give their atmospheric note to the songs. \r\n

\r\nTo sum up, Winterdome is a band which doesn;t introduce us something new, at least musicaly, and "Weltendammerung" is an album which gets over the mediocrity, but doesn’t reach the perfect. I wouldn’t say I was disappointed from thsi release, but there are some elements which tired me, while some others are same. I would be glad, however, to hear the next work of the band, whenever it will be released, and we wish that Winterdome will be more mature and more capable of composing worthmentioned music. \r\n
