Any time I see “Nordic Folk Metal” as an album category, I am afraid of what I am about to hear.
\r\nSo the same thing happened when with the second album of the Norwegian outfit Asmegin, “Arv”. Putting the CD on the the cd tray there were times that I really regretted my movement and there were times that I considered that as a wise move. Of course there is a reson why …
\r\nSo these Norwegians have many really good atmospheric passages in their music with a more “folklore” direction combining them with many keyboards that cause a really gloom atmosphere, but unfortunately in some of the cases they do exaggerate, adding some pointless passages in their music, that personally made me bored. Of course everyone’s taste is different so someone probably will like this exaggeration.
\r\nNow apart from this, on the album there is the use of clean and brutal male vocals and some female vocals. Their whole music really confused me. It’s a mix of metal, having also some new metal riffing and sound, and in specific parts they flirt with some light jazz elements and having also a Hammond keyboard!!!
\r\nI dare to admit that this is one of the not many time that I really got confused so much by an album, so better judge your own.
