Battlelore - The Last Alliance
There is no doubt that Battlelore is not a band that can remain in the\r\nlistener’s memory and unfortunately this tradition continues with their\r\nfifth album “The Last Alliance”. And I say unfortunately because the\r\nband is both willing and inspired.
\r\n
\r\nThis CD overflows with melody, that I must admit, but no matter how\r\nmany times I’ve listened to it I couldn’t find a memorable song. The\r\nonly surprising thing was Maria’s (Doesn’t she has a surname?)\r\ninspiration on the keyboards as well as the orchestration. The fact\r\nthat the entire orchestration is entirely synth-based greatly\r\nhighlights the talent of this lady.
\r\n
\r\nThe vocals went also pretty well. Both Tomi Mykkinen’s grunts and Kaisa Jouhki’s enchanting voice.
\r\n
\r\nThe theme of the album is typical Battlelore: Myth, legend and\r\nfantasy.But the good elements end here. The production of the CD is not\r\nsatisfactory, if we consider A. It’s 2008 and B. All the great\r\nrecordings of other Scandinavian bands. The drums where buried and the\r\nguitars sounded like they were somewhere far away. On top of that I\r\ncouldn’t find any impressive guitar riff. To conclude, The Last\r\nAlliance is ideal for background music to those who like to travel with\r\ntheir minds. And of course I suggest it to every keyboard player out\r\nthere since, like I said, the keyboards in this CD are fantastic.
