Evergrey - Torn
Evergrey - Torn
\r\nIt had been said many times that after some point, and more specifically after the release of the album “In Search of Truth”, EVERGREY began to focus more on the lyrics rather than the music, a fact that led to a quite different musical orientation as the band lost a lot of its dark feeling. This time, as if he describes his most awful nightmares with a wild and unique beauty in each word, in each riff, this great persona called Tom Englund seems to facing his most malicious demons and he feels like sharing it. Or better waking our demons up. Performance that brings you rage through its spasm, pain through its cries, and melancholy through its sadness. The guitars, raw, heavy, rough, to a point of reaching the paranoia of Jeff Loomis, with obvious marks of his death/thrash style, and the whole thing goes far beyond what the band has given to us so far. Perhaps the most heavy and direct work of theirs up to date, with almost torturing melodies, arousing rhythm section and keys, that complete the work of an exceptional album this time without unnecessary samples and unexpected “elations”,. I don ’t know what ‘s more painful here. The musical lamentation or the lyrical wailing. One thing is for sure; EVERGREY has opened really big wounds. And it will take long to heal. And if you expect the catharsis to be achieved at some point in the album, don’t hold your breath. “The scars you caused will stay, nothing is erased…”
