Hesperus Dimension - The Cyclothymic Panopticon

\r\n   Hesperus Dimension is an industrial post black metal trio hailing from Poland, who deliver an unusual mix of industrial, electro and post-black reminding of bands like Arcturus, Thorns, Aborym, DHG or Kovenant. "The Cyclothymatic Panopticon" is their second release and their second EP with running time about 25 minutes and 6 tracks of extreme musical confusion and disorder, creating a cold, unintelligible and dissonant auditory experience.
\r\n   Everything in this effort echoes rather programmed and stiff giving the whole output a rather spacey essence and yielding the songs with a mechanical and inhuman feel. Cold guitars, programmed drums and weird sound samples and an electro feeling thriving along with a bastard black metal sound are all what you get here. While there are also some jazzy elements with some strange saxophone incorporations ("The Axis of Diagram") but fortunately enough there aren’t many of those. The tempo of the songs is equally divided between a brutal and blasting rhythm and a slow and droning atmosphere proceeding from black metal blasts and industrial nuances to ambient elements that convey a very dark and necro atmosphere and giving everything a very cold clinical edge. Vocal-wise, Nahald uses many different forms and dimensions, from howls and screams to a drone speech, almost like a robot.
\r\n   Finally, on the production side, the result has a very inevitable, electronic and sterile flavor, obviously matching with the band’s industrial presentation.
\r\n   Surely, this kind of music is hardly digestible and further more if you are a diehard black metaller there are plenty of things here that will make you grimace with disdain or in the best of cases with a neutral listener’s ear. Personally, music-wise the fusion of black metal and electronics is not my cup of tea but I surely enjoyed the black metal parts and as far as the electronic vibe and the industrial aspect of the sound although it didn’t succeed to convince me all that much, like Anaal Nathrakh or DHG can, for example, however, for the majority of its time I found this EP (of course if I count out the last two songs which in my opinion there are nothing more than fillers) enough arousing and wholly absorbing to hold the attention and maintain a tight hold on any fan of this particular sub-genre. \r\n
